Ripped Jeans and Sweatshirts

I have become obsessed with wearing old sweatshirts. I found one that I thought I was dope while thrifting a few months ago and now when I go I make sure I look to see what other ones I can add to my growing collection. A few weeks ago I styled a vintage Adidas one I found and now I am styling this vintage Hampton one. I am a proud supporter of any HBCU’s, especially Livingstone College and Grambling State University, the two HBCU’s I attended!!

I think the best way to style sweatshirts is with a pair of ripped skinny jeans and heels or a fresh white pair of chucks; plain and simple. This sweatshirt is over-sized, you know how I love anything over-sized and already wonderfully worn in. This is a super chic and comfy look I would wear out hanging with my girls or on a date; well not a first one maybe like the third or fourth.

This look has definitely become one of my go-to’s during the winter months!

One and Done

Last week I posted my first sponsored post and I was scared to death of how it would turn out. I wanted to make sure that the pictures were perfect, it was well written and most importantly that the company I was working with was happy with the end result.

Putting this post together was the most nerve racking thing I have ever done! I am the type of person that has to have everything perfect! I do 3 drafts of simple e-mails I send out at work, so imagine having to put together an entire post! I stayed up until 3am working on the first draft and second drafts and another two days working on the final post that went live on the blog. I agonized over what pictures to use, what details of the dress to showcase and what words to write. Even down to the pictures I posted on IG, I was crossing my fingers that they were the right ones.

After all that worrying, the client loved how the post turned out, I got a ton of traffic over on the blog for the post and most importantly I love how it came out and my first sponsored post jitters are gone. I am actually working on my next sponsored post that will go live in a few weeks.

I am slowly seeing my blog take shape and I loving the shape its taking!

Until next time Diary,

Vintage Tuxedo

I am obsessed with blazers! I love how you can just throw one on and in an instant look polished and pulled together. I am always on the hunt for my next one…as if I need any more lol and I found it in this vintage tuxedo jacket. I found it from one of my fav little shops on Etsy called simplicityisbliss. This shop has a wonderful selection of beautifully curated vintage items and when I saw this jacket I knew it had to be mine.

Its my new favorite jacket!

Tailor Made

I had a friend who only gets his dress shirts and suits tailored made; I never really understood that. In my mind you go to the store, pick out what you want in your size and be on your way. He would tell me “Once you get something tailored to fit you, you will understand what I am talking about!”

A few weeks ago, I got my chance.

eShakti, is a online retailer that allows you to tailor their designs to fit you perfectly. The process is simple, you pick the piece you want, input your exact measurements and 7 days later you have something that is made to fit you at your doorstep.  I have to admit, I was a bit scared diving into my first tailored experience over the internet. What if they ziged when I said zag, what if they went up when I was sure I said down. I remember going with that friend to have a suit tailored for him and it was a long process. This was to take a few strokes of my keyboard and poof I’m all done, but I decided to give it a go and I’m glad I did! The dress I picked was not only more stunning in person, but it fit me like a glove! I have plenty of dresses and I always have to give them little nip/tuck, but this one was perfection. After this I think I will have my underwear tailored lol!

I am a vintage gal, so I love how many of the pieces have a very vintage feel. This dress reminds me of something straight out of the 1940’s but with a very modern twist. I’m obsessed with all the little details of this dress, it fit’s my personal style and is a piece I will have for many years to come.

For my readers  eShakti is offering 10% off your first purchase until April 4th when you use the code “minnieroses”! I’m positive you will love them as much as I do!

The Breaking Point

We have been having the best and worse weather for the past few weeks. I LOVE the snow, it makes me revert back to my childhood and can play in it all day! But with all the snow has come the lack of decent days to shoot looks for the blog. Since I have been working like a mad woman, I took this as a sign to take a little break and I have to say, I have enjoyed my mini vaca! The last time I looked at my blog was my post last week. No checking my stats, no replying to comments, no making small changes to the layout. I don’t think I even went over to my laptop in a week and for me that’s hard!

Am I the only one that gets overwhelmed at this? What other ways do I cope with the amount of stress and pressure that comes along with building a blog?  I read an article that said many new fashion bloggers quit after 6 months of blogging because of how much work it takes to run a blog. I read that article before I even set up a website and I actually thought twice about diving into this new territory. I was scared that I would fall victim to the six  month itch and quit. And to be honest, I was almost there. It was all just becoming to much for me to handle. I LOVE blogging. I have meet some amazing people, built some wonderful relationships and I am learning so much about myself, but working full time job, being a full time mom and blogging into the wee hours of the night left me feeling run down and very grumpy; as my son put it.

I started this blog to fill a creative void in my life and it was slowly becoming a job to me, I could feel it and I have a job, I don’t need two! I need this place to be my creative outlet. A place where I can express myself freely. A platform for my thoughts and ideas. So I needed to step away for a second to remind myself of that, remind myself why I started and I’m back! And happy to be back!

Now that I have had a break, I’m ready to get back into the swing of things! I will be shooting new looks for the blog; including the look for my first collaboration and working on some other fun projects that I can’t wait to share with you!

Until next time Diary
