Over the next few weeks, I’m going to be sharing tips on how to shop vintage and great places you can score you own amazing vintage finds!

Dinner Theater

I work in Recreation and when summer time comes around my #ootd are running shorts, t-shirts and sneakers; I mean it’s hard to keep up with a five year old in skinny jeans, a button down and 4 inch heels, but there is one day of the summer I’m allowed to get gussied up and go some place fancy. Five years ago a co-worker and good friend of mine and I were looking for out of the box field trips to take our kids on and saw that a local children’s theater was running a performance of Henny Penny and a light went off. We decided to take our kids there and then out to eat at a fancy restaurant. Tired of wearing my unofficial summer uniform, I suggested we all get dressed up and the trip was born! Over the years the trip has grown from the twenty we took that first go round and its a trip I look forward to for many reasons; seeing how adorable the kids look all dressed up, the look of excitement on their faces while watching a live show for the first time and of course getting out of rec clothes for a day!

Ahhhh summer, summer, summer time!

Yep folks it’s my BIRTHDAY and I am officially 29; for five years and counting lol

I love the summer, not just because my birthday is the official start of summer; for anyone who wants to get me a gift I’m a ladies size 7.5, but I get to dust off my summer gear; short shorts, open toe sandals and dresses…all the pretty dresses in the land! I’ve been into long flowly skirts and dresses lately and when I picked this one up late last year, I wore it before it got to cold and couldn’t wait to bring it back out when the weather warmed back up. There’s something about white that just screams summer to me and this dress is the perfect outfit to wear to celebrate my big day.

Now off to celebrate with Chipotle and cake!

The trick to wearing men’s trousers is knowing your waist size

Shot this look in seriously the most stunning place!

MinnieRose_O1Walking3 (1)

When looking for things to wear to a wedding, I normally opt for a dress but this time I went for trousers and a blouse as I wanted to do something casual yet chic. I kept the color pallet soft and finished the look with a vintage metal clutch. If you can believe it, I picked up these trousers from the men’s section of my favorite thrift shop. Because of the color and the cut makes for a high waisted fit, they keep the look ultra feminine. When looking for men’s trousers, you need to know your waist size and be sure to try every pair on to ensure a perfect fit!

This look will keep you looking chic all wedding season long!

That One Piece

What’s that one piece for you?

Every woman has that one piece. The one you wear everyday or only on special occasions. The one that has the best story behind it. The one you will never get rid of. The one you pass down to your daughter. For me that one piece is a pair of vintage Weiss earrings I got from an estate sale.

I was not really on the the hunt for anything on that particular day, just browsing but when I saw them I knew I had to have them. I went in like a ninja, grabbed them off the table and held on to them for dear life. I quickly went to pay for them and literally for the rest of the day, I stared at them. It would be another 2 years before I actually wore them for a ball I was attending, but when I took them out out for their debut, they got plenty of oooh and awws.

This is a piece I will wear on my wedding day, the piece I will pass on to my future daughter. The piece I will never get rid of.

In looking for more pieces that I can add to my collection, I was introduced to Invaluable, an online auction site that allows you bid on tons of jewelry items at a fraction of the price. In browsing thru the carefully curated list of items up for sale, I came across the vintage jewelry section and I was blown away!! The pieces are so stunning, unique and one of a kind; I wish I could have them all! If you are looking for that one piece, I highly suggest you check them out!

Ripped Jeans and Sweatshirts

I have become obsessed with wearing old sweatshirts. I found one that I thought I was dope while thrifting a few months ago and now when I go I make sure I look to see what other ones I can add to my growing collection. A few weeks ago I styled a vintage Adidas one I found and now I am styling this vintage Hampton one. I am a proud supporter of any HBCU’s, especially Livingstone College and Grambling State University, the two HBCU’s I attended!!

I think the best way to style sweatshirts is with a pair of ripped skinny jeans and heels or a fresh white pair of chucks; plain and simple. This sweatshirt is over-sized, you know how I love anything over-sized and already wonderfully worn in. This is a super chic and comfy look I would wear out hanging with my girls or on a date; well not a first one maybe like the third or fourth.

This look has definitely become one of my go-to’s during the winter months!
